WORTHING FC 4 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 4 Saturday 16th April 2011
Harriers fans team recovered from a lacklustre first half performance to come back from 3-1 down at half time, to draw 4-4 against the Worthing fans team. With several members suffering after the previous night excursions in Brighton, Harriers started very slowly and were soon made to pay. Ollie Sewell mislaid a pass to put through the Worthing striker, who calmly ran in from just inside the Harriers half to neatly slot into the top right corner. Soon after it was two, with Worthing deploying long ball tactics down the hill, the ball fell to the tall centre midfielder, who sweetly struck it over a hapless Dave Ackers into the top left corner.
Harriers pulled a goal back when Simon Jarasinki hit a 35-yard free kick over everyone including the goal keeper into the top right corner. At the time it appeared to be the only way Harriers would score. Before half time Worthing's two-goal lead was restored when seemingly the ball was heading out of play was kept in, catching a couple of Harriers players unaware and when the ball was crossed in, it was met with an excellent side footed volley into the back of the net. It was nothing more than what either team deserved heading into the break.
Harriers started much more brightly second half and enjoyed the advantage of attacking the goal downhill, however they were lucky not to concede a penalty early on, when Mark Connolly tangled legs with the Worthing striker, but was deemed to be a dive and was given as a goal kick by the ref. Dave Greaves had two close attempts on goal, before providing the assist for Harriers' second. Tireless right back Tim Price played the ball into Greaves, who slid the ball through to Dave Williams, who struck sweetly into the bottom corner. Harriers were soon level, when Jarasinski played the ball wide to left back Morgan Nock, who left several defenders for dead before laying a neat one-two with Williams and side-footing a shot across the goalkeeper into the corner of the net.
The momentum of the away side was halted abruply when Williams had plenty of time but chose to needlessly fizz a pass across the goal towards Mike Peplow, which was quickly pounced on by the Worthing players, who made no mistake in restoring their lead. It looked as if it would finish that way, when Harriers missed a few chances to equalise, but they were saved late on as Mark Connolly met a corner at the back post and powered a header beyond the goalkeeper. There was drama late on, as Sewell went past a defender and was brought down as he moved into the box, which was deemed to be on the edge. Greaves' free kick was hit straight at the keeper and the ref blew to signal full time. All in all it was a spirited fightback from the Harriers to earn a draw, and mentions must go out to Ebbers' performance on the right and Lawerence on his debut.
