WORCESTER CITY 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 4 Friday 7th May 2010
Kidderminster Harriers Fan's team end-of-season festivities continued on Friday night with a local derby against Worcester City Fans Team at a floodlit St Georges Lane, and as a first for the Fans Team, most of the squad made their way to the Worcestershire capital by train accompanied by some keen supporters, family and friends.
In the same fixture that saw Worcester City host KHFC in the FA trophy just a few months ago, this too had local pride at stake and with no side ready to sit back and admire the surrounding, it promised to be an entertaining local derby. With the next day’s game at Deepdale in mind, most of the 19 man squad who made the short trip were limited to 45 minutes each. It was however one of the absentees from Saturdays squad, Dave Greaves, who set the game alight with 4 well taken first half goals, and although Worcester made it 1-1 after 20 mins, the score line at half time was 4-1 to the Harriers.
With the introduction of 7 half-time substitutions by the Harriers, the game threatened to fizzle out and lone striker Greaves failed to make further inroads in front of the home goal. In fact, it was the home side that re-ignited the game with two goals in the last 15 minutes to make it a nervy end to the game but despite some heavy pressure, the back-line stood firm Kiddy managed to hang on for a well deserved victory.
Before the Army of players and supporters made their way back to Worcester Forgate Street Station along with the Worcestershire Bragging rights, both sides were invited to the Social club to share a drink or two and take in some Live Entertainment kindly laid on by the Worcester City Supporters Trust.
