WOKING SUPPORTERS 4 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 4
Saturday 2nd October 2010

With the return of the Mini Bus, Harriers Fans Team took a squad of sixteen for a game against rivals Woking en route to Crawley.

Following a hard earned win the week before against a strong Bury side, Harriers set about making a strong start in good early autumn conditions in Woking and they got that when Dave Pountney found himself with time in the box and had no difficulty dispatching Harriers opener past a helpless keeper. Harriers should have pushed on, but it appeared many of the side thought that the game was now won already and stopped doing the simple things, so it came as no surprise when after a sluggish fifteen minutes Woking found themselves level when a half blocked shot put the opposition striker through on goal who calmly lifted the ball over keeper Ackers.

What should have been a wake up call to the men in blue in fact did the exact opposite, with a dire end to the half Harriers had found themselves 3-1 down with individual errors playing apart in each of the goals.

Stern words were said at half time, and it appeared that it must have gone through one ear and out the other as with two minutes gone in the second half Harriers conceded another sloppy goal with the Woking player having time to plant a free header into the far corner of the net.

Top scorer Dave Greaves gave Harriers hope when he tried his luck with a long range effort that squirmed into the bottom corner under a disappointed keeper, not the prettiest of goals but they all count!

On the hour substitutions were made as harriers tried to get a foothold back in the game. Manager Connolly Switched from a 4-4-2 formation to a 3-5-2, giving the men from Worcestershire an extra body in what was becoming a Woking dominated centre of the park. The changes seemed to work as for the first time in the game Harriers started playing nice football, keeping the ball, and creating many chances. It would be fair to say that for the last 20 minutes of the game the Woking goal lead a charmed life as there goalkeeper and defenders did there jobs resolutely. Almost everyone for the KHIST team being guilty of missing chances.

Once again Harriers pressed on, and with numerous chances going begging, it appeared that a poor first half was going to cost them again. But Harriers were given a lifeline with 90 mins on the clock, John Wenham curled an exquisite ball into the box which a Woking defender could do nothing else with apart from flick it past his own keeper at the near post.

With the referee already announcing that there was only a minute left on the clock when Harriers grabbed there third, it was clear that time was not of a premium and winning the ball back quickly would be crucial if Harriers were to get anything from the game. As Woking kicked off and played the ball back into there own half, great pressing from Dave Pountney enabled him to win the ball off the centre half and square the ball to Greavsie, who dropped the shoulder before slipping a fantastic finish into the bottom of the corner to level things up with pretty much the last kick of the game.

The final whistle went almost straight from the re-start and it would be hard to be disappointed with the result considering the predicament that the KHIST team where in, in the final minutes.
