HARRIERS FANS TEAM 0 SHREWSBURY TOWN 3
Saturday 21st August 2010

The Harriers fans team slumped to a poor defeat in their first home game of the season against Shrewsbury Town at Cookley. With 17 players, rotation was the word and continuity was hard to come by, whilst the opposition remained well organised and were able to play more as a team with their bare 11.

After an even start with some shrewd defending from both sides, Shrewsbury managed to open the scoring. The away side's winger was afforded far too much time by Tom Hudson, as he netted a fine curling shot into the corner from 20 yards.

The score was doubled before half time when again the Shrews' midfield were given too much time and space to play a long ball for their striker to head past Dave Ackerley.

Towards the end of the match, Harriers were finallly putting the Shrews under some pressure, but they simply lacked quality in the final third. Their best chance fell to Dave Williams who, after Kiddy first team player Scott Mason's cross was headed out, hit a vicious half volley which almost shaved the paint from the crossbar.

With an away victory already a certainty, the scoring was completed late in the second period when Harriers conceded in typical fashion: from a set piece. The Shrewsbury centre half rose highest at the back post and headed powerfully into the top corner of the net.

With Harriers' one game unbeaten start to the season over, it's going to be a tough return to action on Bank Holiday Monday against AFC Telford.
