HARRIERS FANS TEAM 1 PRESTON NORTH END 2
Friday 22nd July - IFA Cup Final

Dave Pountney signed off a magnificent 4 years as fans team manager falling just short of ending it on a fairytale note, narrowly losing to Preston in the IFA British Supporter's Cup Final.

It got off to a bad start as two of the squad missed kick off stuck in traffic on the M1 and then got much worse when Preston's Adam Sharples' through-ball was missed by the Harriers back-line and centre-forward Chris McGrill drilled the resultant shot beyond David Ackerley at the near post to give Preston an early lead.

The lead was only to last a few moments though, as Andy Morgan flicked on Lewis Pountney's corner for Richard Hall to guide into the net to send the Harriers fans into delirium on the sidelines.

Both sides had chances to take the lead. Brett Caulfield kicked a backpass straight at Preston's onrushing centre forward and was millimetres from trickling into the net for an embarrassing soft goal, only for Mad Dog to recover and claim the ball before it crossed the line.

Moments later, a free-kick from Lewis Pountney on the right-hand side was brilliantly met by Jamie Willetts, only for Preston keeper Lee Turnbull to brilliantly palm the ball over the bar, even though the ball initially looked as if it had just snuck in under the crossbar.

But the killer blow came 10 minutes from the end when Preston's Andy Dodwell got the better of Andy Powell, and crossed the ball in from the left-wing for Chris Chambers to strike the excruciating blow for Harriers' IFA dreams, in a gripping contest that neither team deserved to lose, but someone had to win.

Outgoing manager Dave Pountney was given a rousing send-off (the Pep Guardiola treatment, minus the bumps) by the Kiddy contingent. As well as the curtain coming down on Kevin Pietersen's impressive reign as Harriers fans team gaffer, each of the players played their heart out, and the non-playing supporters sang their heart out.
