HARRIERS FANS TEAM 3 PORTLY VALE 2
Saturday 28th February 2009 @ Cookley

The Harriers hosted the Port Vale supporters team for the first time at the weekend who kindly stepped in after the late withdrawal of Eastbourne. A 16 man squad included a welcome return of Adam Smith, in the search for a clean sheet, and the appearance of Marc 'happy go lucky' Vaughan.

Again adopting a 3-5-2 formation the Harriers started brightly putting Port Vale on the back foot from the first minute. It was no real suprise when after 10 minutes it was Kiddy who took the lead. Dave Pountney crossed the ball in for Pete Lewis to arrive late in the box to head home for his second of the season.
As the half wore on though the visitors started to get to grips with the Harriers formation and started to cause problems at the other end. It was against the run of play when Marc Vaughan burst through before rounding the keeper to cooly slot home to give Harriers a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

At half time changes were made to the team with Adam Smith making a welcome return to action and Lee Organ coming on up front. During the second half though Port Vale started to pile on the pressure with Harriers  resorting to playing on the conter attack. However Kiddy scored the important next goal with top scorer Dave Greaves finishing well for his 23rd of the season.

Any hopes of the elusive clean sheet were dashed as Port Vale grabbed a deserved goal ensuring a nervy last 20 minutes. Ever present Dave Ackerley continued his recent good form with a couple of good saves for the camera's and general good handling. As the final whistle appraoched and in the 6th minute of stoppage time Port Vale scored again with a fine finish from the edge of the area but it had come too late to alter the result.

For once Harriers scored first and played some food football in patches in a scrappy game. Captain Pete Lewis rolled back the years with a dominant display in central midfield with Marc Vaughan capping a solid display with a goal. A great deal of thanks must go to Stu and the Port Vale lads who came down to give us a game before returning for their home game against Luton. We look forward to playing the return fixture soon.
Next up is the visit to Salisbury where the supporters team will be ruuning a coach to the game. details
