PETERBOROUGH SUPPORTERS 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 4
Saturday 25th October 2008 (a)

The Kidderminster Harriers Supporters Team (KHIST) triumphed in a thrilling game this weekend against Peterborough United’s Supporters Team, edging through 4-3 before Harriers’ FA Cup victory at King’s Lynn.

Harriers’ welcomed back Tom ‘Real Ale’ Sharland, Dave ‘Pound Ennit?’ Williams and long-term absentee Adam Matthews who managed only his second game of the season, and after a slow start against a physical Peterborough side, Dave Greaves gave the visitors the lead as he finished with aplomb from a through ball.

An incredible goal-line clearance from Mike Peplow prevented an immediate reply, and such was the force of the close-range shot, it threatened to send the left-back all the way back to Aberystwyth without the aid of British Rail!

Two quick goals from the hosts though changed the game before half-time, and when the Posh poached a third early in the second period from a corner, it looked as though the honours would be staying with the League One side’s fans.

But when Greaves pulled one back to make it 3-2 the comeback was on, and with Harriers piling on the pressure, some good work from the striker in the box saw him beat the impressive Posh ‘keeper for a third time and seal his hat-trick.

With the game now evenly poised, a break on the left-side from midfielder Sean Merryweather saw him cross the ball for player-manager Dave Pountney to slot home from close range to give Harriers the lead.

Some resolute defending from the visitors (the centre-back pairing of Willo and Ollie, it has to be said!) in the final few minutes protected the lead for the Harriers, as they recorded their third win on the road this season.

The KHIST side face another tough test next week as they entertain Shrewsbury Town’s Supporters before Harriers’ Blue Square Premier clash with Grays Athletic.

Team:
Dave ‘Potato’ Ackerley
- named the potato after recently being chipped a lot, but was solid in the Harriers goal this week and there were no lobbing incidents!
Wayne Allen - will be taking stick from his throw-ins in this game for a while. It seems our very own Director may have been more used to playing netball in his youth!
Mike ‘Aber Town’ Peplow - the honorary Welshman didn’t need the 5.12am train to make this game and it showed with an energetic performance.
Dave ‘Pound Ennit?’ Williams - resisted the temptation to take his Bonus Ball sheet on the pitch with him, and the decision paid off with an excellent display in defence.
Ollie ‘Single Note’ Sewell - This man only ever takes £10 out of the cashpoint, but he followed up his man of the match display last week with a million-dollar performance.
Mark ‘Mad Dog’ Young - Shrugged off an injury scare just after half-time to come back on for a late cameo. More energy than a Kerry Katona Interview.
Sean ‘Goody’ Merryweather - the ideal replacement for Goody in midfield with a tenacious display, but the vomiting incident on the way home is best forgotten!
Ash ‘Darryl Knights’ Jarvis - this youngster played like his hero out on the wing, but took more of a battering on the minibus ride home than from The Posh defence!
John ‘Trumpets’ Wenham - was full of running all day on the wings and even had energy left to lead the minibus-rave on the way home.
Ben Grazier - harshly labelled a member of ‘the three gingers’ by Soupy before the game but it didn’t effect his impressive display on the pitch.
Dave ‘Football Factory’ Greaves - had a bit of aggro at King’s Lynn in the afternoon but had already claimed the star man gong in the morning.
Adam Matthews - Played only his second game of the season but taking a caretaker managerial role next week, no drinking on Friday night please!!
Andrew ‘Powerhouse Forward’ Coffield - was trusted by his manager with the coveted forward role and very nearly got on the end of many a loose ball!
Richard ‘Shergar’ Millington - there was more chance of seeing Lord Lucan than Mill a few weeks ago, but he has ghosted straight back into his full-back slot.
Dave ‘Kevin Pietersen’ Pountney - found time out of preparing for the Stanford Super Series in the Caribbean to pop up with the winning goal

Scorers : Dave Greaves 3 and Dave Pountney 1

Man of the match - Dave Greaves

Many thanks to Adam Matthews 'aka Ede' for the match report.
