OXFORD UNITED 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 3
Saturday 20th February 2010 |
It was a weekend of firsts for the Harriers fans team before the important FA Trophy clash with Oxford United. With over 40 people on the coach KHIST enjoyed the luxury of 29 players to choose from.
Despite trying to find a second opponent Kiddy settled on picking three different sides with each side getting 30 minutes against Oxford whilst the other two teams played a 'friendly' against each other on another pitch before rotating. Dave Williams, Mark Connolly and Dave Pountney each took a side.
On a semi frozen and waterlogged pitch Dave Williams red/white side started strongly. Harriers took the lead through a header from the impressive Simon Jarrasinski from a Lewis Pountney corner. However two goals for Oxford in five minutes turned the game on its head after some very poor defending.
The second game was another tight afair with Richard Millington and Chris Owen causing problems down the right hand side. Pete Lewis contined to dictate play however the deterioration of the pitch continued to cause problems. Manager Mark Connolly returned to form after last weeks 'rum' episode and with 30 minutes left the score remained 2-1 to Oxford.
So with 30 minutes to go the final Harriers side managed by Dave Pountney started well against a tiring Oxford side. After a few good passing moves good link up play between the Pountney brothers resulted in the elder brother, Dave, race clear to finish inside the post. Now on the front foot KHIST created a few chances before Oxford scored against the run of play. After committing too many players forward our hosts scored on the counter attack after a Harriers corner.
With just a few minutes left Kiddy levelled the scores . The impressive James Wasko suffered an injury to be replaced by Mark Connolly. And it was the the substitute who rose at the far post from another Pountney corner to level the scores.
A draw was probably a fair result against a decent Oxford side who we will miss playing shall they finally secure promotion from the Conference.
On the other pitch the 'friendly' games between our sides resulted in some excellent play and some interesting scorers. Jai Stampe was the most prolific with 3 goals whilst Alex Withers returned from the wilderness to score. Mike Peplow, Ian Danby and Dave Connolly were all unlikely scorers but the goal of the games was saved for Rob Hart who netted with an excellent header.
A great day out for all supporters especially as the result went our way in the afternoon and another four players made their debut to take the total to 53 for the season.
