KETTERING TOWN SUPPORTERS 1 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 1
Saturday 18th October 2008 (a)

The Harriers supporters team made the short trip across the Midlands to take on the Kettering Town supporters team on Saturday for the first time. As expected Kettering proved to be tough opponents with both sides playing out a tight
1-1 draw.

Harriers were missing, player of the season, Tom Sharland (hamstring) and Dave Williams (old age) but welcomed back from the wilderness Pete Lewis and Richard 'Lord Lucan' Millington. After beating Nuneaton comfortably in their first game a hard game was expected and our hosts did not disappoint.

Captain Ben Grazier won the toss and decided to play against a strong wind and slope first half. The conditions severeley affected the game though with neither side having much possession with the ball spending most of the time out of play. Both sides kept trying to play football though with Kettering enjoying the better possession and chances in the first half. The KHIST side continued to make changes as the half wore on to utilise the 16 man squad and it was a surprise that the game was scoreless at half time, with an excellent performance by the Harriers defence.

At the start of the second half though the Harriers expected the favourable conditions and the sides experience to enable them to run out winners. Full credit to our hosts though who continued to cause the Harriers problems and with the game in the balance ,and with only ten minutes to go, it was Kettering who took the lead following a good move and finish much to the delight of a sizeable home crowd. Having come back from 5 goals down before the Harriers knew that they were still in the game and got a deserved equaliser with only five minutes to go. A long throw by Pountney dropped to man of the match Ollie Sewell on the edge of the box who cooly finished through a crowd of players.

A draw was probably a fair result between two well matched sides. Despite being newly formed Kettering were well organised and strong in most positions (much the same as their first team) and im sure will be more than a match for most sides that visit. We look forward to the return game at the end of the season where hopefully both our first teams will still be towards the top of the league. The fans team face another tough game when they play the Peterborough United supporters team en route to Kings Lynn in the FA Cup.
