ILKESTON SUPPORTERS TEAM 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 5
Saturday 10th January 2009 (a)

The KHIST supporters team game from behind yet again to steal victory in a hard fought game at Ilkeston to make it four consecutive victories.

With both games in doubt the Harriers set off at 8.30am hoping for warmer conditions in Ilky. Upon arrival though it was clear that ice skates would be of more use than football boots and it was no suprise to hear that the main game in the afternoon was soon called off. Credit to both teams though who decided to play the game given the distance Harriers had travelled.

Harriers started the game brighly with Dave Greaves and Pountney causing the home defence problems and it was the two Dave's who combined as top scorer Greaves gave the Kiddy the lead with a fine finish. Both sides continued to try and pass the ball with the icy conditions severley affecting the game. After some pressure the home side equalised and then took the lead following some poor defending by the Harriers in a difficult 10 minute spell. Just as Ilkeston started to take control of the game Kiddy equalised through Ben Grazier following a scramble in the area.

At the start of the second half our hosts were soon on the front foot with the Harriers struggling to get the ball forward. Once again Harriers conceded after Dave Ackerly fumbled the ball to give Ilky a 3-2 lead. Ackerley in goal soon made amends though with a couple of excellent saves to keep the Harriers in the game. Ilkeston then hit the cross bar twice within a couple of minutes to leave the Harriers hanging on. With only 15 minutes to go Top scorer Dave Greaves changed the game as he curled a wonderful effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards to level the scores again against the run of play.

As the game entered the final minutes and following some rare pressure from the Harriers, Greaves tested the Ilkeston keeper who could only parry the ball to Tom Sharland who managed to hold off the defender to give the Harriers the lead. Then in the final minute Dave Greaves completed his hatrick with a deflected shot to give the scoreline a flattering look after an assist by Ebbers.

It was a fourth consecutive win for the fans team against a decent team on a very tricky pitch. Credit to both sides for playing the game in a great spirit helped by an excellent referee. It was the third game in a row that Harriers conceded three goals but once again  managed to win the game. A good performance by Dave Ackerley in goal kept the Harriers in the game and in truth Kiddy were fortunate to win the game. The fans team have a rare home game next weekend against the Weymouth supporters team.
