HISTON SUPPORTERS 1 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 3
Saturday 11th April (a) 2009

The Harriers Fans Team got back to winning ways by means of a comfortable victory away at Histon, thanks to goals from Ollie Sewell, Nathan Fox and Chris Smith. There was no sign of the recent bickering and petulance within the ranks with the 22 man squad all in good spirits and determined to put the last 2 defeats well and truly behind them. Spirits were no doubt helped by the 'Bob the builder' fancy dress theme enjoyed by most of the team.

1st Half Team - Dave Ackerley, Dave Goode, Mark Connolly, Sean Merryweather, Ash Jarvis, Ben Grazier, Pete Lewis, Rob Hart, Simon Jarrasinski, John Wenham and Mike Cooper

The visitors dominated from the outset with Pete Lewis and Ash Jarvis getting the better of the home sides defence. It was one way traffic for most of the first half, with the Harriers creating lots of chances, the most notably when Jarvis found himself unmarked in front of goal but the home Keeper did well to tip his shot onto the cross bar.

Pete Lewis should also have grabbed a couple goals after getting in behind the hosts defence, but again the impressive keeper making some decent saves. As Harriers pushed and pushed, Histon nearly caught them out with some quick counter attacks from the young looking front-line. It was starting to look like one of those days when Mark Connolly rattled the bar from with a header from a corner and Dave Goode also coming close with a header.

2nd Half Team - Mike Peplow, Dave Williams, Andrew Coffield, Richard Millington, Chris Lacey, Ollie Sewell, Chris Smith, Nathan Fox, James Wasko, Andrew Gray and Wayne Allen

The huge squad enabled a staggering 11 changes at half time, and it didn’t take the fresh legs long to give Harriers the lead when Ollie Sewell headed in from a corner after ghosting in between the two defenders. The game evened its self out slightly although ironically it was the second half team that looked more impressive in front of goal.

The away side doubled their lead by means of a fine lob from Man of the match Nathan Fox after breaking away from the defence and chipping the advancing goal keeper, then out of nowhere Histon got their selves back in it when a free-kick on the side-line 30 yards out somehow managed to find its way into the back of the net after sub keeper Mike Peplow misjudged the flight of the ball and was left clutching thin air. It didn’t take long though for Harriers to put the game to bed when the impressive Chris Smith broke from midfield to slip the ball pass the keeper to make it 3-1 and despite being watched by Histon manager Steve Fallon our hosts could find no way back.

The match finished on that score-line but it was not the end of the interaction between the two sets of fans as the excellent hosts very kindly brought a round of drinks for the travelling fans team and put on a nice spread of post match food at their local pub.

So a massive thanks to the Histon Fans team for being great hosts and let’s hope we meet again soon for another cracking away day. Once again the fans team took a coach to the game and helped 'build' links with another club by playing footy.
