Harriers suffered defeat on the east coast Saturday in a disjointed performance against an experianced Mariners side. With manager Connolly missing along with several regulars it was left to Dave Pountney to pick from a healthy squad of 16. A defensive crisis meant that Ben Grazier filled in at centre half on a sunny morning on a hard pitch and the return of veteran Wayne Allen.
Harriers started well and in a scrappy opening 20 minutes both sides created half chances. It was Kiddy who took the lead though when John Wenham's cross caught the stand in Mariners keep out of position. However this lead was short lived as the lively Grimsby forward raced clear to finish into the top corner. Both sides continued to try and play football but no further goals came in a scrappy half.
KHIST started the second half poorly and were soon behind following poor defending as Grimsby began to take control of the game. It was no suprise when the Mariners scored again with the Grimsby number 10 at the heart of most things. Alex Withers gave Harriers some hope when he pulled one back from long range followiing an error by the stand in goalkeeper. However hope was short lived as another error by Richard Millington allowed Grimsby to confirm victory.
An enjoyable game in the sun against a good bunch from Grimsby. However Harriers lacked a bit of fight and quality at both ends of the pitch to have any hope of getting anything out of the game. Next up is the long trip south to take on the Worthing FC supporters for the first time.
