EXETER CITY SUPPORTERS 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 6
Sunday 28th December 2008 (a)

The Harriers fans team were winners again at the weekend against an improving Exeter City supporters team en route to Torquay United for the Conference clash.

With Torquay unable to provide opposition the supporters team took the opportunity to play Exeter whom we had a very enjoyable game back in March. An 17 man squad departed Kidderminster at 7.30am for the trip down th M5 to find icy conditions on the south coast.

Despite the conditions Harriers started the game well with little (williams) and large (merryweather) controlling the game and after only four miinutes Kiddy took the lead following a fine header . . . . by the Exeter full back! With less than 10 minutes on the clock Kiddy doubled their lead through John Wenham who tapped in on the goalline. Exeter were soon at it again with another own goal following more Harriers pressure which owed more to the tricky conditions than lack of skill. On the half hour mark Sean Merryweather colly finished to make the score 4-0 and effectivly kill the game as a contest. Manager Pountney soon rang the changes and it was one of the substitutes Wayne Allen who uppended an Exeter forward to give a way a penalty just before half time which was easily finished.

Harriers started the second half as they started the first with Sean Merryweather adding his second of the game before top scorer Dave Greaves finally managed to get on the scoresheet to make it 6-1 with half an hour to go. Once again changes were made with Ebbers pushed up front in search of an exlusive first goal and Exeter soon started to come back into the game. Credit to our hosts who kept going to the end though and pulled two goals back in the last eight minutes with one a fine volley from the edge of the area.

In summary it was an enjoyable game played in an excellent spirit on a tricky pitch. Three wins on the bounce and the supporters team will look to take this form into the new year when we face Ilkeston before the FA Trophy tie on the 10th January.
