DONCASTER ROVERS 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 4
Saturday 14th August 2010

Harriers Fans Team made it a perfect start to the season with a hard earned victory away to Doncaster en route to York City.

The game started scrappy with both sides wasting early half chances, however the deadlock was broken on 15 minutes after a clever pass from Dave Greaves put Morgan Knock through on goal whose excellent finish put the visitors ahead. The lead didn’t last long and as usual it was sloppy defending from a set-piece that led to the leveller, a close range header from the Donny centre half made it 1-1. It took until the first round of substitutes for the Harriers to finally find their rhythm and start to make neat passing movements with debutants Andy Morgan and Mitch Pearce impressing in Midfield. The Harriers managed to find themselves 2-1 up going into half time after the referee awarded a very soft penalty for handball in the area, which Greaves finished with ease.

The second period started better for the home side with most of play inside the Harriers half and this time it was Doncaster who took control of the game and soon went into a deserved lead with 2 quick-fire and well taken goals, albeit after more soft defending. Harriers again found their rhythm as the half progressed and started to create lots of chances and with Doncaster being pushed back deeper and deeper and only some excellent goal-keeping kept the home side in front. It started to look like the game would end with a defeat for the Harriers, however change of shape for the visitors and another slice of luck meant that Greaves tapped the ball into the empty net when the keeper fumbled a long ball forward.

A draw might have been the fairer result however there was more drama to come when a good cross from Sean Merryweather found Dave Greaves in the box and the forward sent the defender the wrong way to coolly slip the ball pass the keeper with perfection to give the Harriers the victory.
