HARRIERS FANS TEAM 9 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0
Saturday 18th September 2010 |
The Harriers Fans team picked up their first home win since March with an emphatic 9-0 win at the expense of Cambridge United. With a rare opportunity to play a fellow Blue-Square Premier side, it was a great chance for the hosts to arrest the poor home form that has been a monkey on the back for the team in recent months. Manager Mark Connolly had the luxury of a 19 man squad to choose from.
With a good start imperative, the game began in perfect fashion when Ben Grazier lashed in a superb volley from 18yards. Once both teams settled into their stride, it was the home side that took command and bossed the game pretty much from start to finish. It didn’t take long for the pressure to tell with two more goals coming from the front two Dave Greaves and Alex Withers, both with smart finishes.
Into the second half, Cambridge barely had time to re-group as two early goals from Sean Merryweather and Nathan Fox put the game well out of reach of the guests. As the game became more and more stretched the goal scoring continued with the KHIST side utilising their large squad.
An own goal followed by a second from Nathan Fox, then a strike from full-back Tom Hudson sandwiched between the goal of the game from Veteran Dave Wiliams after some excellent build-up play down the right hand side brought an end to the rout with the final whistle signalling a comfortable 9-0 victory.
It was a good workout for the Harriers in a rare home game against a fellow Conference team but will expect a tougher test next weekend as Bury visit en route to Cheltenham.
Scorers - Nathan Fox 2, Ben Grazier, Dave Greaves, Alex Withers, Dave Williams, Sean Merryweather, Tom Hudson and own goal.
Man of the Match - Ian Danby
