BURTON ALBION SUPPORTERS 2 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 7 Monday 25th August 2008 (a)
The KHIST supporters team got back to winning ways on Bank Holiday Monday against a young Burton Albion side at Shobnall Leisure centre with a comfortable 7-2 victory.
With Williams Travel enjoying a Bank Holiday rest the 14 man squad set off in the hope of recording their first win of the season. The squad were greeted by a strong smell of beer from the Marston's brewery next door and changing rooms that resembled prison cells, although some members of the team did quite enjoy it!
The management were a little concerned before kick off as the referee joined Burton's pre match huddle, but following a decent warm up the Harriers took the lead through Lewis Pountney. Although Burton soon equalised Lewis Pountney completed his first half hatrick and Tom Sharland added another to take a 4-1 half time lead.
In the second half despite Harriers controlling the game the Burton side never gave up and scored the goal of the game from 25 yards. Sean Merryweather, on his debut, and David Goode added further second half goals.
Following an inspired substitution Mike 'Iyseden' Peplow was pushed forward and outpaced (im not joking) the Burton defence before cooly finishing with the help of the goalkeeper. Cue wild celebrations as 'jaffa man' Soupy capped off a man of the match performance with his first goal of the season.
More drama occurred in the last minute when the Harriers we awarded a penalty and Rob Hart stepped up looking to score his first goal ever. After confidently scoring though the referee decided that players were in the area and ordered a retake, which he sadly missed.
A solid performance in our first visit to Burton with Mike 'Soupy' Peplow enjoying an excellent game and Lewis Pountney scoring a first half hatrick.
