AFC WIMBLEDON 3 HARRIERS FANS TEAM 3
Saturday 12th March 2011

Kidderminster and Wimbledon Fans teams took a share of the spoils with an entertaining 3-3 draw prior to the afternoon's main event.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start and found themselves a goal down inside 30 seconds when a mix up at the back let in the Wimbledon forward to slot home the opener. The deficit didn’t last long however, as the impressive John Wenham broke free down the left to setup Mitch Pearce at the back post to level matters on 5 minutes.

The Harriers still hadn’t found their groove which had seen them lose just twice in 14 games, but somehow found themselves a goal up when the Wimbledon defender headed into his own net just before the half hour mark. This should have given the Harriers a platform to build upon however more calamitous defending saw Wimbledon awarded an in-direct free kick following a back pass, luckily for the visitors the shot flew over the bar. However it didn’t take long for Wimbledon to level, more dubious communication between centre halves and keeper let in the Wimbledon Player manager to head home to take the scores level at half time.

After some choice words at the interval the Harriers slowly started to dominate and indeed they took the lead on the hour mark, this time another good run and cross allowed Craig Martin to tap in his first goal of the season to make it 3-2 to the Harriers. With the visitors still vastly underperforming it was only matter of time before they surrendered the lead with only some last-ditch defending and a rejected penalty appeal keeping Wimbledon at bay. It wasn’t to be however and Wimbledon levelled with around 10 minutes left when what looked like a clear foul on Ollie Sewell went unpunished and from the same passage of play, a soft shot from 12 yards out somehow managed to find its way into the top corner past the flailing Harriers shot stopper.

3-3 was definitely a fair reflection on the game and the Harriers will have to improve significantly to get past Bury in next week’s IFA cup clash.
